Coppin State University, a proud HBCU with over a century of history, partnered with Mindgrub to build Jackson, an AI chatbot named after Coppin’s eagle mascot. It supports students, families and alumni as they navigate campus life.
Built on Microsoft Copilot and powered by Retrieval-Augmented Generation, Jackson and Coppin’s new AI-generated search answer questions like “What majors does Coppin offer?” using only Coppin’s own vetted content, with guardrails in place to keep responses safe and on-brand.
Mindgrub also gave Jackson a genuine personality (complete with a birthday and knowledge of Coppin’s rivalries) and trained Coppin’s staff to maintain and grow the tool independently. The result is an always-on support system that eases the load on Coppin’s administrative team while giving students a fast, friendly way to get answers.
