The Santa Cruz METROpolitan Transit District (METRO) hired Celtis to redesign its website, placing emphasis on accessibility and user interface. The site needed to offer a seamless customer experience for all bus riders and reflect METRO’s commitment to protecting the environment.
With information architecture shaped by real riders and a design system that includes space for visual rest, Celtis went beyond WCAG compliance. The site was tested by software and by hand, resulting in a 98% Lighthouse accessibility score.
Clear maps and trip-planning tools are crucial to transit riders. Celtis created interactive bus-system maps that can be filtered to show all routes in a radius around popular destinations. The site also features a trip planner that allows riders to find their route and track their bus in real time.
Finally, Celtis designed the site around stunning images of the Santa Cruz County landscape captured by renowned photographers. The site’s clean design allows these photos – and METRO’s sustainability message – to take center stage.
