A website design and build project that encountered delays but resulted in a site crafted with love, that reinvented this company: Fermor Stone in Sussex.
Our client, the business owner had split from his business partner a few years back but was still trading under their joint business name; Fermor & Ellis. He wanted to rejuvenate his brand and have a whole new website, a project which is right up our street. Our first step was to create the new brand identity and our designer produced a set of logo concepts that our client found it hard to choose from.
Being a stonemason, our client isn’t the most tech-savvy and he needed a great deal of support throughout this WordPress design and build – lost domain account details, limited host information and no understanding of redirects or SEO. We have held his hand and were happy to use our many years of small business experience to guide him. It’s been a long project for a brochure style website, but we are proud of it. It uses an animated, reveal effect on the homepage, almost like the words are being cut out of stone, for interesting visual relevancy. The site is optimised, with dedicated content pages for services areas such as stone cleaning, restorations and custom work, giving the company a better chance of ranking in search results. And this new website helps their incredible skill and talent shine through, for prospective clients to see. We pride ourselves on avoiding code bloat and ensuring our sites are mobile-first for high performance. During the build, Fermor Stone also had a key member of the team depart the business and so balancing content-writing with the physical demands of stonemasonry work over longer hours than usual has been hard for our client. This has been a project that took tenacity on both sides.
