Muslim Hands is a global humanitarian charity with fundraising headquarters in the UK and USA, supporting millions of beneficiaries worldwide. As the organisation expanded, it became clear that their digital platform, particularly the donation experience, no longer reflected the scale of their impact. The journey contained friction, impact reporting was disconnected from giving, and the content structure lacked flexibility. They asked us to reassess the experience and identify where change would have the greatest effect.
We began with research, running interviews, surveys, and collaborative workshops with marketing and technical teams. Using a Jobs To Be Done framework, we explored the motivations behind giving, especially around Zakat. Donors were not seeking a simple transaction. They wanted transparency around fund allocation, visible proof of impact, and reassurance that their spiritual obligation translated into meaningful outcomes. Mobile simplicity and clarity were critical. These insights shaped the redesign. We integrated impact reporting directly into the donation journey, embedding transparency within campaign pages. Clear allocation breakdowns, progress indicators, and supportive guidance built confidence at key moments. The information architecture was restructured to support both everyday fundraising and urgent appeals through modular templates that enabled speed and consistency.
The user experience was simplified to reduce cognitive load, particularly on mobile. We introduced collective fundraising mechanics, allowing multiple donors to contribute towards shared goals and visualise progress in real time, widening participation and strengthening community connection. A modular design system was developed and translated into a ReactJ based front-end. The in-house IT team developed the payment API and CMS ensuring flexibility and control. The result is a transparent, scalable platform that strengthens trust and supports long term global fundraising.
