The Quietus is an independent cultural journalism platform established in 2008 by John Doran and Luke Turner. Despite its respected reputation and loyal readership, the old website had become challenging to use, especially on mobile devices, and its extensive archive was difficult to explore.
11:11 Studio worked with The Quietus to deliver a refreshed visual identity and new website. Our focus was making content easy to discover, especially the site’s well-known long-form articles. We built a smarter content linking system, connecting new articles with relevant archived pieces, improving overall readability and user experience.
The new site also meets modern accessibility standards (WCAG), ensuring it’s user-friendly for everyone. We refined typography, layout structure, and content presentation specifically tailored for an improved reading experience.
Highlights:
- Updated brand visuals, including textured backgrounds inspired by classic illustrations and manuscripts.
- A modern, mobile-friendly website, making navigation and content discovery easier.
- Introduction of The Portal to encourage readers to explore content more deeply.
- Improved SEO practices increasing organic traffic.
- Clear strategies to encourage subscriptions and reader engagement.
