Blackwood NZ is an immersive digital showcase crafted by WebToday for a New Zealand architectural timber studio specialising in shou sugi ban — the traditional Japanese art of charring wood. Designed and built in Wix Studio, the site reflects the brand’s dedication to craftsmanship, materiality, and design integrity through a seamless fusion of form and function.
The aesthetic draws inspiration from Japanese principles of restraint, balance, and quiet beauty. A muted palette, generous negative space, and tactile imagery of charred timber create an atmosphere that feels contemplative yet contemporary. Typography and transitions are deliberately subtle, mirroring the precision and patience that define the Blackwood process.
Beneath its minimalist surface lies a sophisticated multi-relational dynamic structure, developed in Wix Studio’s CMS. Finishes, projects, and resources are interconnected through interwoven navigation, allowing users to explore the brand story from any starting point — moving fluidly between design inspiration, technical knowledge, and project application.
