Neotropical Birding and Conservation (NBC) is a UK-registered charity; a cornerstone of Neotropical bird conservation for over 30 years. The only charity of its kind in the UK, this small, volunteer-driven organisation is doing vital work to protect the most bird-diverse region on the planet.

Fostering a global network of birding enthusiasts, over 300 threatened bird species across some of the most biodiverse ecosystems have been conserved.

After undergoing a significant rebrand to place conservation at the heart of its identity, the charity’s website no longer reflected its ambitions and global community.

Accent Design, a Norwich-based web and design agency, has transformed the website from a membership administration tool into a powerful advocacy platform with striking design and a content management system, managing:

• International membership tiers
• Charitable donations
• Magazine sales
• Archive of scientific journals.

850 pieces of data and 340 hours of pro-bono work later, the new website reflects the beauty and wonder of birds, showcasing the impact of the charity’s Conservation Fund. This includes the Blue-eyed Ground-dove, no longer in danger of extinction after 75 years.

Within six months, web visitors have increased by 35.6%, new memberships by 50% and £18,873.23 has been raised in donations – an astonishing 424% increase.

Mike Dawson, Chairman of the charity says: “Since launching, we have seen a remarkable increase in donations – something our previous site was never set up to achieve.

The rebrand was a pivotal moment for our organisation and we needed a website that could match it. There was a lot to get right and they got it right. Most importantly, the website now tells the story of our conservation work in a way the old site never could.

Having a website that not only matches our ambition but actively helps us grow our funding makes a real difference to what we can achieve.”
